About Leroy

Dr Leroy Logan MBE is a former superintendent in the Metropolitan police. He retired in 2013 after 30 years' service. He is also a former chair and founding member of the Black Police Association.

Leroy is one of UK’s most highly decorated and well known black police officers. A highly respected and well regarded commentator on policing in black communities, he believes that there is still much work to do in creating a more equitable and fair criminal justice system.

Since his retirement, Leroy has built a reputation as a go-to person expert, using his decades of experience to give insightful, critical analysis on current events surrounding our justice system. He’s been called upon by the likes of Channel 4, Good Morning Britain, The Guardian, LBC, BBC Radio 4, HARDTalk and more.

Awards:

  • Best selling author of ‘Closing Ranks’ in the autobiography / memoir section - CRT Awards (2021).

  • Book inspired the award winning film ‘Red White And Blue’ directed by Steve McQueen, where John Boyega received the Golden Globe awards for playing Leroy Logan (2021)

  • Jamaican Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for Service to Jamaica and building bridges with the UK, building closer links with the UK Diaspora. (2018).

  • PhD (Hons) from UEL (2013) for my contribution to policing

  • Further Education Colleges National Gold Award (2010).

  • Four Commissioner’s Commendations (2003-07).

  • Queens Honours MBE award for my contribution to policing in the UK. (2000). 

  • Over 15 community-based awards from 1999 until current day.
