Supporting the Damilola Taylor Trust
Championing Hope and Opportunity for Young People
Dr Leroy Logan MBE has been appointed as a trustee of the Damilola Taylor Trust, an organisation founded in May 2001 by Richard Taylor OBE, following the tragic killing of his 10 year-old son Damilola in 2000 by an act of violence by two boys not much older than him. The Trust stands as a legacy of hope and opportunity for disadvantaged and underprivileged young people, particularly in inner-city South London.
The Trust’s mission is to ensure that young people are supported to live their lives free from fear, violence, and poverty. Through a range of community-focused programmes, the Trust addresses issues such as youth violence, school exclusions, and the social challenges that hinder young people from realising their full potential.
Leroy brings decades of experience in policing, youth advocacy, and community engagement. A former superintendent in the Metropolitan Police Service and founding member and past Chair of the Black Police Association, he has long championed systemic change, diversity, and inclusion. His leadership in initiatives such as VOYAGE Youth and the All-Party Parliamentary Commission on Youth Violence as well as his current role as chair of Transition to Adulthood (T2A) reflects his unwavering commitment to empowering young people and building safer, stronger communities.
Leroy has had a close relationship with the Taylor family for many years, and his appointment as trustee is a natural extension of his lifelong work supporting young people and tackling the root causes of youth violence. His governance experience and deep understanding of the social issues affecting marginalised communities will further strengthen the Trust’s mission and impact.
