Leroy Logan speaks to Y9 students at Riverside School

Leroy, along with his wife Gretl, joined Year 9 students as part of their History Assembly. The students wrote him letters when they were in Year 8 after studying him and his story - as told through the Small Axe film - in their history lessons.

Many of the school’s students are from disadvantaged backgrounds and we have a very diverse student body, meaning that the stories within these films have both inspired and moved many of our students. As a result of this topic, a couple of classes were keen to meet with Leroy and find out more about his experience.

Leroy shared with the students his experiences as a police officer and how he has handled challenges but also sought to inspire real change within the police and wider community. The students had prepared a number of questions in advance and they were given the opportunity to ask these in person.

As well as addressing a large number of students during the assembly, he met with a smaller group of students to continue the discussion, and he appreciated their energy and excellent contributions to the discussions.
